‘i have to believe that pain doesn’t just wear our hearts out’ is an original poem by the author butterflies rising that was published on January 30, 2023, and was something that came to her after feeling overwhelmed with the amount of hatred and unkindness is filling the world around her. It stirred her to question where it all comes from, and even though she can acknowledge that most of those people are reacting out of their own internal pain, she still doesn’t understand being that way. But she knows that her energy is all she is meant to judge and think about, so she decided to focus internally instead of focusing on others, and it stirred her to examine her own reaction to her own pain struggles and this poem was her sorting out how she wants to let her pain make her more passionate and more compassionate, and that’s where the poem came from.
i have to believe that pain
doesn’t just wear our hearts out;
that it stretches them with purpose,
that it’s meant to give us a pulse…
in breakdown, we are broken open,
and in hurt, we find more humanity,
passion is stirred from our aches,
and empathy is a muscle that grows
the more we feel… and so we
come out brighter from our darkness.
maybe if we let it… our pain can have
beautiful purpose.
